Episode Overview
On January 25, 1990, Avianca Flight 52, traveling from Colombia to New York City, faces multiple weather delays during its journey. As it nears the airport, the aircraft finds itself critically low on fuel and attempts to land. However, wind shear forces the pilots to abort their approach just a mile from the runway. Miscommunication with air traffic control leads them back into a holding pattern, oblivious to their dire fuel situation. Tragically, the Boeing 707 ultimately runs out of fuel and crashes on Long Island, just short of its destination.
