As the Vietnam War approached its end, the U.S. initiated Operation Babylift, aimed at rescuing children from the chaos of Vietnam. However, on April 4, 1975, the inaugural flight of this mission ended in disaster when a Lockheed C-5 Galaxy, with 314 individuals on board, crashed during a desperate emergency landing at Tan Son Nhut Air Base in South Vietnam, resulting in the tragic loss of 138 lives.
