Fran suggests to Mr. Sheffield that it might be time to remove his wedding ring. After C.C. highlights Andrew Lloyd Weber's appearance in a crossword puzzle, Maxwell opts to hire a publicist to enhance his reputation. He recruits the stunning Sydney Mercer, transforming his persona into that of a rebellious middle-aged man. As Maxwell develops feelings for Sydney, both C.C. and Fran become envious. They plan a meeting at the Rainbow Room, but Fran learns at the last moment that Sydney is actually gay and interested in her instead. In a rush to find Mr. Sheffield, they get trapped in the elevator.
