The Thorsons are hit with a hefty bill for years of unpaid property taxes and decide to hire a burglar to access Ralph's safe. Instead of cash, they uncover clues related to a 1989 kidnapping case that could lead to a significant fortune. Dottie and Brandi catch burglar Harry in the act, but they propose a deal: they'll overlook his crime if he helps them open the safe. With the government claiming they owe $120,000, Dottie believes there's evidence to dispute this. Accompanying them is newswoman Maria Sandoval, brought by Ricky, who seems more interested in dating her than the story. While the safe yields little, they discover numerous recordings from Ralph, including details about the notorious McDonald kidnapping case from twelve years prior.
