House of Cards (1990)
S01E02 Part 2
Episode Overview
New Prime Minister Collingridge informs Urquhart that he is too essential in his current role to consider a ministerial position. Though seething with anger, Urquhart conceals his disdain with his trademark polished demeanor. He’s convinced that Collingridge's tenure will be short-lived, leading him to contemplate ways to expedite his exit. In the meantime, he decides to subtly sabotage the leader while advancing his own interests. Serendipitously, a naïve young journalist, Mattie Storin, hangs on his every word. Urquhart feigns mentorship in Westminster politics, but instead, he exploits her to leak compromising stories about his competitors. As the Party convenes for its annual conference, the scandals start to emerge.
