Chris Tarrant: Extreme Railways (2014)
S01E02 Australia's Outback Railway
Episode Overview
Title: Australia's Outback Railway In this episode, Chris embarks on an incredible journey across the Australian Outback via the historic Adelaide to Darwin railway, widely recognized as 'The Ghan Line.' Named after the primary service that operates along it, 'Ghan' harkens back to the Afghan camel caravans that transported goods and people through the Outback in the 1800s. The railway's construction was a monumental engineering feat, taking over a century to finish. Chris travels the original, troubled path from Adelaide to Darwin, beginning on the modern luxury Ghan train before switching to one of the remaining steam trains. Venturing deeper into the Outback, he realizes that a modern 4x4 is far more suitable for this rugged terrain.
