Episode Overview

In the early 1970s, Santa Cruz, California, thrived as a vibrant hub for the hippie movement, particularly with its newly established university. However, this idyllic time was abruptly disrupted when a series of female students vanished, with their dismembered remains later discovered around the area. Law enforcement struggled to find any leads, but soon identified a chilling pattern: all the victims had been seen hitchhiking. The community, gripped by fear, anxiously awaited the next move of the person they labeled “The Coed Killer.” Unbeknownst to them, the culprit, Edmund Kemper, lived among them, concealing a sinister past and a history of violence against young women.
