Episode Overview
George diverts Orry's attention, as his thoughts of Madeline are affecting his performance at West Point. Bent manages to escape a court-martial, but the president of the court ultimately forces him out of the academy. At a gathering thrown by Tillet Main, Justin chastises Madeline for her opposition to separatism and orchestrates a scenario for a slave to offend publicly, allowing the overseer to punish him with branding. Bent capitalizes on his status as the illegitimate son of a U.S. Senator to secure a captaincy in the Mexican-American War. Once again in command of Orry and George, he sends them on a perilous mission. They both survive, but Orry is left permanently injured. Constance, the colonel's daughter who saves Orry's life, becomes George's beloved. Following his father's death, George resigns his commission and heads home.
