Episode Overview
During the Hazards' visit to Mont Royal, Billy's interest in Ashton fades when he sees her with another man, prompting him to focus on Brett instead. Virgilia encounters Grady, James Hontoon's coachman, and feels an immediate spark. After they spend the night together, she aids his escape to the North, resulting in a clash with Huntoon. Orry reluctantly asks the Hazards to depart. Soon, Virgilia and Grady are living together as a married couple, which unsettles even some staunch abolitionists. Billy and Charles graduate from West Point, with Billy heading to Washington, D.C. and Charles to Texas under Robert E. Lee. Billy proposes to Brett, but Orry forbids him from pursuing her. Ashton continues her manipulative ways in society and seeks help from Madeline when she faces difficulties. Meanwhile, Madeline's father, on his deathbed, surprises her by revealing a long-hidden family secret.
