Episode Overview
After the Klan destroys Madeline's school, she and her community resolve to rebuild. Meanwhile, Cooper Main has found phosphates on Mont Royal land and, with Isabelle Hazard backing him, starts a mining venture. Unfortunately, the working conditions are dire, and the former slaves employed there find themselves trapped in a cycle of debt, reliant on the company store for their necessities. In Pennsylvania, George Hazard is heartbroken over Constance's loss and becomes fixated on tracking down Bent for revenge, enlisting Pinkerton agents who consistently fail to catch him. A visit from Madeline ultimately helps George regain his perspective. Ashton, having left her life of prostitution, now dedicates herself to her husband’s piano business, determined to save enough money to purchase Mont Royal. Meanwhile, Charlie Main refuses to settle with Willa and continues his restless journey as an army scout, hunting for Scar, the man who killed his friends.
