In her quest to solve the shooting death of her former partner in New York, Beckett suspects the culprit has escaped to Los Angeles. Ignoring orders, she heads to L.A. to pursue the killer, with Castle unexpectedly tagging along. As they delve into the investigation, they follow leads that take them from a glamorous Hollywood rooftop pool to the sandy shores of Santa Monica. Their journey includes a visit to the set of "Heat Wave," the film adaptation of Castle's book, where they enlist the cast's help. However, as they close in on the suspect, Castle starts to question whether Beckett is seeking justice or revenge.
