In 1440, the young King James II seeks vengeance against the rebellious Earl of Douglas, who threatens his rule, by luring him to a feast at Edinburgh Castle. This infamous event, later dubbed the "Black Dinner," foreshadows one of the most shocking moments in Game of Thrones. Meanwhile, in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, the community grows suspicious when Edward Searles, the designer of Searles Castle, marries a wealthy widow only for her to fall ill and pass away shortly after, leading them to suspect foul play. In Italy, Gradara Castle becomes the battleground for the feuding Malatesta and Polenta families, as Francesca is wed to the unattractive Giovanni Malatesta, igniting a tragic love story with his brother, Paolo.
