Episode Overview

TAPS explores Fort Delaware, situated on Pea Patch Island in the heart of the Delaware River, close to its mouth at Delaware Bay. Once a crucial military stronghold, this island is now part of Fort Delaware State Park, managed by the state of Delaware. During the Civil War, Fort Delaware served as a detention camp for Confederate soldiers, particularly those taken prisoner during the 1863 Battle of Gettysburg. Numerous inmates who perished at the fort are interred at the nearby Finns Point National Cemetery in New Jersey.
