Secrets of the London Underground (2021)
S04E03 Waterloo and Marble Arch
Episode Overview
Tim and Siddy delve into the hidden underground tunnels beneath Waterloo, one of the busiest train stations in Britain. Tim is treated to a glimpse of the concealed world below the main concourse, featuring a long-abandoned typing pool, a rifle range, and a dusty full-size snooker table. As part of the Hidden London team, Siddy uses her special access to unlock a door at the end of a Bakerloo line platform, revealing a floodgate that once protected the tunnel from German bombings during World War II. Later, Siddy heads to Marble Arch on the Central line, where she meets the artist behind an iconic series of enamel artworks created for the station in the 1980s. Each piece showcases the Marble Arch in unique styles, and remarkably, they remain in excellent condition after four decades. Siddy learns about the inspiration for the designs and the artist's journey in mastering the intricate enamel technique to bring her vision to life.
