Secrets of the London Underground (2021)
S04E06 Ruislip Depot and Warren Street
Episode Overview
Tim and Siddy gain exclusive access to the extensive maintenance depot at Ruislip, located at the Central line's terminus. This facility serves as the hub for all tube operations, from everyday track repairs to urgent engineering tasks. Tim witnesses a track replacement demonstration as a crane skillfully places large pre-assembled sections of railway track. Meanwhile, Siddy takes control of a machine that positions ballast under the sleepers, securing the track. At Warren Street station, which serves the Northern and Victoria lines, Siddy discovers the station's ongoing transformation. Originally opened in the early 1900s, it was redesigned in the 1930s and underwent a significant overhaul in the 1960s with the addition of the Victoria line. At the Acton Museum depot, Tim encounters a poet whose work has been selected for the 'Poems on the Underground' project.
