This Old House (1979)
S16E22 The Napa Valley House - 4
Episode Overview
The episode kicks off with a tour of Trefethen Vineyards, the oldest wooden, gravity-fed winery in Napa Valley. Here, our master carpenter teams up with plumber George Biter, who showcases his rough plumbing work, featuring ABS and cast iron pipes. General contractor Jim Nolan explains the impressive installation of a large laminated-veneer-lumber beam that bridges the new kitchen, eliminating the need for a central support post. New French doors are added to the old dining room's west wall, and our host visits a factory in Palo Alto where the energy-efficient plastic film for the glazing is produced. Back at the winery, we examine foundation plantings encroaching on Dennis's house and check out his small vineyard. Finally, we venture to Opus One, a prestigious collaboration between Robert Mondavi and the de Rothschild family from France.
