Excavation contractor Herb Brockert arrives to begin digging, while a new septic tank and leach lines are added to the existing field in the backyard. Inside, the team reviews the demolition strategy, emphasizing the need to stick to the designated reconstruction areas. Architect Chris Dallmus presents a model of the planned addition and discusses potential window options. However, during the dig, Herb encounters large boulders at around four feet, thwarting the Maitlands' plans for a full basement.
