This Old House (1979)

S17E11 The Salem House - 11

Dec 09, 1995 Season 17 Episode 11 Documentary, Reality

Episode Overview

The City of Salem's tree-planting initiative introduces a Callery pear (pyrus calleryana 'red spire') in front of the Guinees' residence. Inside the kitchen, the team inspects the newly installed windows, custom-crafted to match the house's existing sills and casings. These windows are made from glass salvaged from the original kitchen windows, which were too large for the countertops. The crew reminisces about a recent visit from Historical Commission members and local neighbors who came to view a mock-up of the planned carriageway. Roger Hopkins shows up to adjust the granite steps, while Tom Silva buries a time capsule filled with a TOH shirt, a Silva Bros. shirt, and a copy of TOH magazine. Upstairs, the crew breaks through a wall to link the guest room with the Federal for the first time in 120 years. Meanwhile, our host takes the vintage clawfoot tub to a refinishing company in Ludlow, Massachusetts.
