This Old House travels to the charming city of Savannah, Georgia, where Mills and Marianne Fleming have acquired a stunning 1884 Italianate Victorian townhouse located on the picturesque Monterey Square. We explore the home, noting that the dilapidated back porches will be replaced with a new structure that features an upgraded kitchen and dining area on the first floor, alongside a master suite on the second. Additional renovations include restoring the heart pine floors, adding guest bathrooms, implementing an HVAC system to handle the local heat and humidity, and enhancing the exterior with a stylish iron balustrade and wooden shutters. Mills also takes us on a highlight tour of downtown Savannah. Contractor J.T. Turner, known for his work in the historic district, shares insights on a current restoration project as well as a completed one. Finally, his foreman Mark Fitzpatrick discusses the key challenges facing this renovation.
