This Old House (1979)
S17E02 The Salem House - 2
Episode Overview
With their offer of $205,000 accepted, the Guinees officially move into their new home. Our host chats with their banker, who outlines the financing details of the purchase. Deborah shares her vision for the house, highlighting her desire for a kitchen, a master suite, and a way to secure off-street parking. Meanwhile, the master carpenter begins restoration work on the dining room's old window sash. He carefully removes the stops, loosens the lower sash, and extracts the glass. After scraping away loose paint, he repairs the damaged wood with epoxy and primes it. Museum curator Dean Lahikainen then guides us through the historic Pierce-Nichols house, designed by Salem architect Samuel McIntire in 1782 and remodeled in the Federal style in 1801, showcasing it as one of America's premier late-colonial structures.
