S17E08 The Salem House - 8

Nov 18, 1995 Season 17 Episode 8 Documentary, Reality

Episode Overview

The team evaluates the state of the clapboards on the back of the building, realizing that patching would require a significant amount of labor, while a full replacement would lead to a hefty material cost. Our host assures that he will discuss this with the homeowners. Meanwhile, painter Mike McManus and his team start applying the first coat of tinted primer, pleased with how smoothly the new paint applies. At the Salem Historical District Commission meeting, architect Pamela Hawkes shares the carriageway designs. Commissioners raise questions, neighbors express their thoughts, and the commission ultimately votes to approve the concept, requesting further details on the flooring. The crew finishes grouting the new bathtub wall, and before installing the tile floor, they put in a premade underfloor heating system along with a cementitious underlayment. Outside, restoration painter John Dee adds the final coat of paint to the portico, having previously used a wood filler called Swedish putty to achieve a smooth finish.
