This Old House (1979)
S18E20 The Tucson House - 2
Episode Overview
The episode begins at Casa Cordova, one of Tucson's historical treasures, established in 1848 within the original walls of the presido. Now part of the Tucson Museum of Art, the site is buzzing with activity as the crew arrives to assess the ongoing work. General contractor John McCaleb examines damage from termites and honeybees before moving on to the newly constructed addition. In just four days, a two-man team has erected the walls using innovative hollow blocks made from recycled styrofoam and concrete, achieving an impressive R-36 insulation rating with added rebar and poured concrete. Next, we explore the stunning San Xavier del Bac mission, built in the late 1700s, where renovations are incorporating prickly pear juice. Finally, back at Casa Cordova, plumber Dan LaBlue opts for flexible plastic (PEX) tubing to supply water throughout the building.
