This Old House (1979)
S20E17 The Watertown House - 17
Episode Overview
Upon arriving at the site, our host discovers that the exterior of the building is nearly finished. The fresh paint is applied, the copper gutter system is in place, and Tommy and his team have completed the front porch, featuring a copper shingle roof and new steps. Roger Cook and his crew are busy laying a rice-stone walkway and garden path that leads to the formal herb garden on the south side of the house. Inside, the highlight is the installation of the kitchen cabinets, which we explore at the custom shop where they were crafted. In the front hall, finishes expert John Dee demonstrates how he’s expertly matching the original stripped oak of the central staircase with the new oak of the wainscot using various shades of traditional shellac. Meanwhile, upstairs, Joe Ferrante is working on an intricate marble tile pattern for the master shower, as the crew reassembles the central balustrade, handrail, and newel posts.
