This Old House (1979)
S21E16 The Billerica House - 16
Episode Overview
Paving contractor Don Sloan demonstrates several paving techniques to Roger Cook, including a basic black asphalt topped with crushed stone pressed into a liquid asphalt binder. In the back, Roger points out the drywell and crushed stone his team has installed to manage excess water on the building's north side. Inside, Tom Silva gives our host a tour of the kitchen island's new pull-out pastry board, which is supported by robust 300-pound rated slides. Next, it’s off to Kirkcaldy, Scotland, to witness the traditional linoleum production process, which has remained unchanged for a century using the same natural materials. Back at the job site, Richard Trethewey tests the newly installed A/C chiller, showcasing its impressive quietness. He also discusses the iron-removal unit designed for the house’s well water. Finally, Jean and Bob Sparkes apply hydroseed to the lawn just in time before the water temperature drops.
