This Old House (1979)
S23E07 The Manchester House - 7
Episode Overview
Steve takes a turn operating the jobsite forklift, managing to deliver a stack of plywood to the third floor, albeit a bit unsteadily. While there, he and Tom voice their worries about the design for the kitchen, office, and game room. Tom suggests an alternative spot for the game room: the stunning third floor with its new dormers. Meanwhile, our master carpenter learns about red cedar shingles and bleaching oils from expert Rick Farrar in preparation for their renovation project. Steve also joins architect Steve Holt on a harbor tour to explore the fate of some historic homes in town, ranging from complete restorations to demolitions. One significant loss was Kragsyde, once hailed as a prime example of Shingle style, which was torn down in 1929. Although it's no longer standing, a couple in Swan's Island, Maine, has built an exact replica, and Steve travels to see their incredible work.
