This Old House (1979)
S26E06 Prefab Systems Speed Things Up - The Carlisle House
Episode Overview
Tom constructs 40-foot beams using laminated veneer lumber to support the barn's first-floor deck. Meanwhile, Kevin collaborates with panelized construction expert Jim LeRoy, observing the installation of the I-joist floor panels being lifted into place by a crane. Norm meets Frank Baker, a specialist in structural insulated panels, to witness the SIPs wall system being erected. Certified arborist Matt Foti discovers that several of the old trees are afflicted with deadly diseases like Dutch Elm and Ash Yellows, prompting him to bring in two bucket truck crews for their safe removal. As the day wraps up, Tom and Norm are dismayed to find the barn's construction has resulted in one side being shorter than the other, leading to unexpected delays and expenses.
