This Old House (1979)
S29E07 Newton: Salvage, Progress, and Pink Granite
Episode Overview
As host Kevin O'Connor arrives at the house, he finds general contractor Tom Silva busy loading a truck for the "Building Materials Resource Center," a local charity that will sell excess materials from the project to homeowners in need at reduced prices. Inside, Tom showcases the advancements made on the porch, kitchen, and master bath, where new windows are being fitted. In the basement, plumbing and heating specialist Richard Trethewey provides insights into the home’s mechanical systems. To explore the significance of the Milford Pink granite foundation, architect Treff LaFleche takes Kevin to the Boston Public Library, illustrating how the same stone is quarried and cut to match the house's existing material. Back on-site, Roger installs the new granite while carefully matching the old mortar.
