At the Brooklyn renovation site, host Kevin O'Connor meets local builder Michael Streaman and stair fabricator Stephen Dijanic, who are busy installing a vintage spiral staircase purchased by the homeowners online. In the parlor, the new plaster medallion has been placed, and design correspondent Carole Freehauf shares the design plans for two rental units. Homeowner Kevin Costello is busy laying click-together linoleum tiles in one apartment, while cabinet installer Oliver Earl tackles the challenge of hiding ductwork above his cabinetry in the other space. Meanwhile, finish carpenter Mario Quintuna demonstrates to master carpenter Norm Abram his process of restoring the original five-panel interior doors by patching holes and replacing panels. As the day wraps up, the spiral staircase is nearly finished and ready for a test. Homeowner Karen Shen expresses her excitement over the stunning result, especially after Streaman’s modifications for a perfect fit.
