Episode Overview

Host Kevin O'Connor arrives to discover that the majority of the demolition work has been completed, leaving the house fully exposed. General contractor Tom Silva walks him through the progress, and they begin addressing the uneven kitchen floor by working from underneath in the basement. Meanwhile, master carpenter Norm Abram constructs the new mudroom and powder room on the main floor, utilizing Tom's preferred technique of framing: cutting the materials to size, assembling the walls flat, and then raising them one by one. Plumbing and heating expert Richard Trethewey meets with Bill Gode, Massachusetts State Director of Flood Control, to explore how engineering projects, including three significant dams, have sculpted the Charles River over time.
