Episode Overview
The day begins with the delivery of a heavy 17-foot steel beam, weighing 900 pounds, meant to support the house over a 16-foot gap in the rear foundation wall. Due to difficult site access, general contractor Tom Silva employs a crane to hoist the beam over the house and set it onto a temporary wall near its installation point. Host Kevin O'Connor and Tom's team assist with the installation. Meanwhile, master carpenter Norm Abram meets product specialist Bill Gaines to review insulated concrete forms used for both the foundation and new above-grade walls. Inside, Kevin chats with Chris Kimball from America's Test Kitchen about the 1940 kitchen's "time capsule" and the upcoming design for the homeowners in 2010. Back outside, the forms are ready as the concrete truck arrives to pour the foundation and walls.
