Maxwell is thrown into turmoil when his father dies, leaving everything to Concepcion, a secret offspring from a past affair with a flamenco dancer. Meanwhile, C.C. returns from the sanatorium, using the opportunity to unsettle Fran and drive a wedge between her and Maxwell. Concerned about the Sheffield family's financial troubles, Fran approaches Concepcion in hopes of convincing her to distribute the inheritance among her siblings, but to no avail. Understanding the weight of poverty, Fran tells Maxwell she would support him if he chose to marry someone wealthy. C.C. proposes to Maxwell, but his heart remains with Fran. In a surprising twist, the Sheffield lawyer arrives with news that Concepcion has chosen to share her fortune, inspired by Fran's kindness. Meanwhile, Niles plays pranks on Ms. Babcock, making her question her sanity.
