Episode Overview

The Russians are successfully repelling the invasion, leading to significant losses for the Germans. Wilhelm is injured and left behind, but instead of returning to the base, he stumbles upon a lakeside cabin where he isolates himself for several weeks. Eventually, the German Army finds him, and he faces a death sentence for desertion. Meanwhile, Friedhelm is sent home, but disheartened by his father's reaction to Wilhelm’s presumed death and his own lack of recognition, he decides to re-enlist. Viktor manages to flee from the Germans and joins a group of Polish partisans, hiding his Jewish identity due to their anti-Semitic views. Charlotte, grieving for Wilhelm, begins an affair with a military doctor. Greta visits the front lines and becomes disillusioned by the grim realities she witnesses, leading to her arrest for publicly criticizing the war and the Nazi regime.
