Episode Overview
As the Soviet forces advance on Berlin, the fate of both the war and Nazism hangs in the balance. Wilhelm receives a surprising reprieve, as his death sentence is commuted to probation. However, his probation officer mistreats him, prompting Wilhelm to retaliate by killing him and fleeing. Meanwhile, Viktor is expelled from the partisans due to his Jewish heritage. He encounters Friedhelm, who takes out his commanding officer to allow Viktor to escape. As the German army collapses, Friedhelm sacrifices himself, leading a militia group to surrender. Charlotte is captured by the Soviets and becomes a nurse for them, while Greta faces execution for her outspoken beliefs. By 1945, the war concludes, and Wilhelm, Viktor, and Charlotte reunite in their old pub, sharing their grief over the turmoil they’ve endured.
