Episode Overview
In 1845, young Mennonite Levi Zendt departs for the West with his fiancée, Elly Zamm. During their journey on the wagon train and their stop in St. Louis, they encounter Oliver Seccombe, a young English author, and Army Captain Maxwell Mercy, who is married to Lisette, the daughter of Pasquinel. Meanwhile, McKeag marries Clay Basket and takes in her mixed-race daughter, Lucinda. Trouble arises when guide Samuel Purchase attempts to assault Elly, prompting Levi and Elly to leave the wagon train. They eventually meet McKeag and work together to establish the settlement of Centennial.
