In San Francisco, Gayla and Steve Erickson seek a specialist for their ailing son, Josh, who suffers from a rare blood disease. During tests for a bone marrow transplant, they discover that Steve is not Josh's biological father. Meanwhile, Alice and Bill Korman set up a blind date for their plain friend Millie Broome, who is attending a teachers' conference. When her date cancels, Alice hires escort Charles Vandoor, who unexpectedly develops feelings for Millie. As Charles struggles to reveal his profession, Millie learns the truth from an enthusiastic former client. Meanwhile, the renowned clairvoyant Constantin Markos captivates visitors at the St. Gregory Hotel, including Peter, who is intrigued by his prediction of a redhead entering his life soon.
