After spending eleven years in prison for a crime he insists he didn't commit, Phil Tanner emerges as a bestselling author. He teams up with Calvin Polk, a Hollywood screenwriter, to gather support for a prison reform initiative. However, complications arise when Kathy Avery, Polk's young girlfriend, becomes infatuated with Tanner. When Kathy is discovered dead, Tanner fears he will be accused of murder and takes Christine hostage, urging her to validate his claim that her death was accidental. Christine manages to calm him, promising that the truth will come to light. Meanwhile, Sandy Hoyle's ailing grandmother, Mrs. Kupchak, is eager to see her granddaughter married.
