Maintenon arrives back at the palace and urges Louis to move forward with his schemes. Louis aims to tarnish Leopold’s reputation and secretly allies with Barek, the Ottoman envoy. Philippe realizes that the Church is behind the plot involving the man in the iron mask and begins to suspect Louis's involvement. Meanwhile, Marie-Thérèse's health takes a turn for the worse, leaving her gravely ill.
