Gimme a Break! (1981)

Episode Overview

Nell discovers that her former husband, Tony, is back in town and wants to catch up. During their meeting at her home, he reveals that he’s set to appear on the Merv Griffin show but needs $1,000 to prepare. Reluctantly, Nell agrees to lend him the money and fabricates a story for the Chief, claiming it’s for her Aunt’s surgery. Although the Chief senses that Tony is likely to squander the cash and miss his chance at fame, he hands over the money. As expected, when Tony auditions, he’s quickly dismissed for being too similar to other performers.
