Gimme a Break! (1981)

Episode Overview

Nell is jolted awake in the early morning by a neighbor's incessant barking dog. When the Chief finds her dozing at the kitchen table, she explains her sleepless night. He decides to call their neighbor over for coffee, and Nell shares her frustrations about the dog. After the neighbor leaves, Nell steps outside to bag up dog waste, but the dog bites her in the process. This leads her to take the neighbor to court. During the hearing, the neighbor claims her dog has never bitten anyone, so the case is dismissed—until Simpson arrives, revealing the dog has a history of biting. The case is reopened, and the neighbor faces a lawsuit, with the dog at risk of being euthanized. Ultimately, Nell has a change of heart and withdraws the case upon hearing about the dog's fate. The neighbor promises to keep her dog inside at night from then on.
