Gimme a Break! (1981)

Episode Overview

While entertaining the family by playing the accordion during dinner, Uncle Ed suddenly falls ill and collapses into the fish tank while trying to cool off. He ends up in the hospital, where he learns he needs a kidney transplant due to his unhealthy lifestyle, and a sibling would be the ideal donor. The Chief, concerned for Ed, promises to support him through this tough time. When Ed asks him to donate a kidney, he agrees. However, Julie opposes the idea, and soon the rest of the family shares her fears about the Chief's potential death. The Chief reassures Nell that if anything goes wrong during the surgery, she can raise their daughters and keep the house. Before the operation, Nell and the girls cuddle with the Chief in bed, sipping hot cocoa as they worry about the outcome. Fortunately, the surgery goes well, and the family celebrates with joy as Ed’s doctor plays the accordion for them.
