Gimme a Break! (1981)

Episode Overview

Valerie, Katie's friend, arrives at the Kanisky home with her newborn, David, sharing the news of her breakup with Jonathan, who left her for a woman at "Kentucky Fried Chicken." Facing financial struggles, Valerie considers putting David up for adoption. In response, Nell and the girls take her out to shop for baby essentials, leaving David with the Chief, who quickly becomes fond of the baby. When they return, the Chief insists he won’t let Valerie give David up and promises to help her find employment. Nell later accompanies Valerie to a receptionist job interview, cleverly outmaneuvering the competition. In the end, everyone rejoices at the news that Valerie secured the job and can keep David.
