Episode Overview
On August 16, 1881, Tombstone endures an unrelenting heat wave, stretching into its tenth day. In the local hotels, Mrs. Curtis feigns fainting spells, allowing her purse or handkerchief to slip from her grasp. As hotel staff lean down to assist her, she takes the opportunity to kill them and plunder the cash register. So far, she has claimed the lives of Mark Jenkins at the American Hotel and Bates at the Occidental Hotel. Clay believes he’s pursuing a tall male suspect, given the downward trajectory of the bullets, but he notices a distinct lavender scent at each crime scene. Meanwhile, Curtis' accomplice, Douglas Metcalf, an insurance investigator, has just arrived, and Clay detects the same floral aroma lingering on him as well as Mrs. Curtis.
