Whitley receives an unexpected visit from her mother, Marion, just in time for Thanksgiving, leaving her feeling embarrassed about being jobless and the recent robbery they experienced. Things take a surprising turn when Marion introduces her fiancé, Malik, a younger man who makes a living selling oils and poetry. Concerned that Malik might be after her mother's money, Whitley enlists Kim to flirt with him to break them up. As tension rises, Dwayne's estranged mother unexpectedly arrives, complicating matters further. Meanwhile, Freddie struggles to reconnect with Ron while committing to her relationship with Shazza, balancing her activism for Haitian refugees with a demanding law school project.
