When the clinic shuts down because of an asbestos issue, Laverne convinces Maxine to accompany her to Hickory to assist with her wedding plans, which Laverne's mother is overly complicating. At the same time, Carol shares her engagement to Kevin, while Harry decides to sell the house and relocate to Vermont for a teaching opportunity. Meanwhile, Charley and Sophia find themselves lost on their way to Hickory. The wedding preparations come to a halt when Laverne unexpectedly elopes, and Carol calls off her engagement with Kevin after learning about Harry's upcoming move.
