In 2015, a 69-year-old man is discovered stabbed to death in his residence, leaving investigators baffled. There are no signs of forced entry and no apparent motive, as he seems to have lived a conflict-free life. During the investigation, forensics unearth a receipt from a nearby ATM, which the police believe will help pinpoint the time of death. However, they are taken aback when bank surveillance reveals a woman using the victim's card to withdraw money. Her connection to the case leads to her boyfriend, Ian Birley, who has a troubling history. Recently released from prison after serving time for a similar murder in 1995, Birley’s past casts a dark shadow over the current investigation.
