In 1984, 17-year-old Melanie Road was tragically murdered while returning home from a nightclub in Bath. After a night out with her boyfriend and friends, she was attacked and viciously stabbed 26 times. Her body was discovered the next morning by a milkman. Despite extensive investigations and several arrests, the police could not identify her killer, and the case eventually grew cold, even with a wealth of DNA evidence collected. For three decades, the authorities revisited the case and searched the DNA database for matches, but to no avail. A significant breakthrough occurred in 2014 when a familial DNA match led them to Christopher Hampton, a married father who had evaded capture since that fateful night.
