Murdertown (2018)
S03E07 Oxford
Episode Overview
On August 12, 1995, Vikki Thompson vanished in Ascott-under-Wychwood, Oxfordshire, while out walking her dog, which returned home alone, prompting concern. After an intense search, Vikki was located alive but severely injured; she succumbed to her wounds six days later. Mark Weston became the primary suspect, and police worked to gather a solid case for his prosecution. However, he was acquitted by the jury during the trial. In 2005, a change in the double jeopardy law permitted retrials for the same offense, prompting authorities to reopen Vikki's case. New testing on Weston's boots revealed blood traces that matched Vikki's. In 2009, Weston was arrested once more and ultimately convicted, marking a historic application of the new legislation.
