William Martin (Steve Forrest), a slick con artist, arrives in Medicine Bow with his crew and sets his sights on bank teller Lydia Turner (Bethel Leslie), the daughter of the bank's owner. His scheme involves charming her to persuade her father and Judge Garth into backing a phony oil drilling venture. Things take a turn when a bank run disrupts his plans, and Martin finds himself unexpectedly attracted to Lydia, complicating his deceitful intentions.
