Episode Overview
Wealthy Caroline Witman (Joan Freeman) and her Aunt Grace (Lillian Bronson) stop in Medicine Bow while traveling from San Francisco to New York. Caroline finds herself captivated by the Virginian, who mostly pays her no mind. Meanwhile, Jefferson Tolliver (Dick York), a hand from Shiloh, becomes infatuated with her, and she plays along with his affection to provoke the Virginian's jealousy. Tolliver's dreams are hindered by his financial struggles, and when he discovers an out-of-work hand rustling cattle, he chooses to join him in crime instead of reporting him. Their actions escalate, leading to the accidental murder of a ranch hand and setting the stage for a dramatic showdown between Tolliver and the Virginian.
