In June 1909, Elizabeth and Lawrence Kirbridge have fallen deeply in love, choosing to defy societal expectations by deciding to cohabit without marrying. This bold choice brings mounting pressure from their families and friends, and eventually, Lawrence begins to push Lizzie as well, leading her to relent. Meanwhile, Sarah finally realizes her aspiration of performing on stage by joining a burlesque show. When James arrives, now that she's no longer employed by his family, he seizes the opportunity to pursue the relationship they've both yearned for over the past six years.
